Anglo American Mining Indaba Projection Table
Every year the company participates in the Investing in African Mining Indaba, the largest of its kind in the world, and one where the company can engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from governments and investment specialists to key mining analysts and fund managers.
And with this in mind, for the 2014 event, the company wanted to communicate its key underlying message – Mining Matters.
The Investing in African Mining Indaba is filled with people observing the information they are confronted with, and bombarded with messages wherever they turn. But we knew something else - in nearly every case these observers would be just that – observers, passively absorbing whatever came their way.
We wanted to devise an innovative and creative installation that would provide viewers with an interactive platform that provided key stakeholders with information about the processes and activities of mining, and why mining does matter. We also wanted to make them curious – sparking a conversation around Mining Matters. We could only do that, if we could project our world into theirs.
The solution was to construct an installation that combined words with pictures and interactivity with visualisations.
This 3D touch screen projection table became a place where information mirrored mining, where the topography on the table mirrored geometry in the stand. It all worked together – research and technology, information and context, viewer and viewed. It was different, informative, innovative and creative.
